Today I’m going over some Regional Winning results that I have seen from this past weekend and updating The Gauntlet. Shout out to JediGeekGirl from the IRebel Podcast for making my life easier. Her Discord does a great job of keeping track of the results.

Aayla/Padawan/Padawan wins Oklahoma over Sabine/Ezra.

Boba/Seventh Sister Wins North Dakota in mirror match.

Kylo2/Mom wins 4th German Regional

Sabine/Ezra wins New Zealand Nationals, Hero Vehicles is top of standings

BROTK wins Madrid Regional over Kylo2/Mom

Aayla/Padawans

This just in: Erik Wainwright has sold his soul to the devil, we’ll have more details as this story develops…

Seriously, though, he’s just straight crushing fools left and wright. This is a testament to good deck building from the position of maximizing synergies in a world where people just put good cards in a deck and try to smash. Aayla Secura is clearly one of the best characters in the format and putting her in such an aggressive shell has payed dividends since this is his second Regional win! This is the kind of deck that can do very well against Sabine, putting a lot of pressure on Sabine is how you generally beat her.

Erik beat BROTK twice in the tournament. I have read some of Erik’s thoughts on the match up with BROTK and he doesn’t think its favorable but it’s winnable. He’s working on an article for Artificery which you should definitely look out for. In summery he prefers to go for Nightsister first and if you expect to face BROTK a bunch then you should consider playing Close Quarters Assault. I won’t say anything beyond that since I don’t want to steal his thunder. Congratulations to Erik! We aren’t putting this deck in the “must test” but if you happen to live anywhere near Erik you should definitely test against it.

Boba/Seventh Sister

Aside from Erik Wainwright winning another regional with Aayla and Padawans the big story is the emergence of Boba/Seventh Sister as a deck to fear.

This is essentially a fair deck with good damage output and solid disruptive elements. Those disruptive elements are important when facing a deck like BROTK or Sabine. The best way to beat those decks are to kill their key character or disrupt their powerful event shenanigans. This deck can do both those things fairly well. With Close Quarters Assault and Friends in Low Places you’ll be able to mess with people’s hands pretty reliably. You’re pretty good against other aggressive decks since you’re playing free removal and Ancient Lightsabers. You are also playing one of the formats most powerful cards in Maul’s Lightsaber and when you play that on turn 1 you’ll be dealing a ton of damage. This deck not only won that regional but his teammate came in 2nd, his only loses coming from his teammate! We’ve updated The Gauntlet and put it as a must test for this weekend. Try to get at least a couple of games in. This is the kind of deck a lot players will gravitate towards for a bunch of reasons like: you get to play Boba Fett, it’s more forgiving to mistakes than BROTK and your opponent’s won’t be miserable playing you since you’ll be playing a fair game. Congrats to those guys for their strong showing!

Kylo2/Mom

Kylo2/Mom won both the German Regional and came in second in Madrid.

This is the 2nd place list from Spain since I couldn’t find the first place one from Germany. Calgary was won by this team a few weeks ago but I’m putting this one mostly because its more recent and its playing Ewok village- a much more conservative choice compared to Calgary’s Outer Rim Outpost, I do like the Heirloom Lightsabers in that list though. The deck is consistent because of mom’s ability but it’s somewhat reliant on SIth Holocron to play its upgrades quickly. With Mom’s ability Force Throw is one of the most powerful cards in the format and playing that for three is fine enough but the other ones are much worse in power level when you are paying retail. Between Mom’s consistency and Kylo’s insane ability your characters are the main source of your deck power. The deck feels swingy at times when you play against a deck with a bunch of colors or don’t draw Sith Holocron in time. Still, this has a solid spot in the format and its clearly proven it belongs as a deck to beat.

The other two winning decks are BROTK and Hero Vehicles. Both of those decks were already in the must test section of The Gauntlet and will stay there until they stop winning. The big thing about this format is that I think you’re going to get a lot of mileage from sticking to your deck, knowing your match ups and piloting it well. You might have bad match ups but that just means you should be playing those more and know how to beat them. Most of these top 8s have 6 to 8 different decks. I don’t know about you but I love that. It really adds a layer of depth to tournament game play that is unprecedented. If you’re like me and have deck ADD you can switch and try the different flavors for fun but in the end nothing will beat consistent practice.
